Yesterday we went on a great hike, and a first for us, on the Busby Trail at Savoy State Forest off Route 2. The beginning of the trail was pretty wet...and considering that we went straight when we should have gone right adding about a mile to our hike and bringing us through the wetness again.
The trail is nicely marked and for a bit of it we had the beautiful sounds of the stream. It was a pretty breezy day so we also had the sound of the wind throught the trees. We did hear some birds and some woodpeckers but I couldn't seem to see them, so I never even took out the binoculars.
The above picture really doesn't show how high these cliffs actually are. I felt very small looking up! We accidently found a Geo Cache hidden (not well) in the foundation of a building that used to be there. I was pretty excited anyway and went down to fill it out. Now I'm wishing I had taken more pictures. The book said that if we followed the trail we would come to a nice view...nope! We couldn't seem to find that. We may have been on the right trail, and maybe we if we continued on we would have found the A-view but the trail didn't seem to be as well marked the higher up we went so we got nervous and turned back. It was a great hike anyway. We ended up going a little over 5 miles on a trail that was marked moderate. It had some pretty good steep parts. We were tired but happy. I love the Berkshires!
